Yes, Businesses can use social tools to adapt and overcome their issues. But is not going to be the tools that make the difference, it will be the company DNA and leadership abilities that will fix it. If they have a community that they have been engaged with it will be easier, but then if they had that they wouldn't need to be saved. Hope that is brief enough. Thanks for inviting...
Yes. For both start-ups and older one store front small businesses. I am working on one in each catagory. The young start-up, 5 years old needs to get the word out on their location. Build it and they come model is not as strong as it was in days past. People drive less, see it in a store, go home and compare prices on the web. Then decide where to buy. If you don't build a personality on the web for a store front, the customer may not show up. For the other business, it was a thirving business built over a 40 year period by a good friends father. He died 15 years ago and his customer base has aged. Their children have grown up and moved away. The business has lost their thriving church, community and family following. She needs to build a new army and reach these customers in a different way. Both small bizs wasted money on print, radio, etc. It did not work. I don't have results in yet. I will keep you posted on how this new effort works for both. They are both excited to move in a new direction.
| Yes. It requires time, but very little capital. It is an opportunity to connect with local communities about your business, in your own words. You can explain your products or services in detail and with personalized photos. There's never been an opportunity for business promotion like that which Social Media outlets provide. | It's impossible to answer this question with a 'yes' or 'no' without knowing the business. Social media, or indeed any media is only a channel to communicate with the market. If a business has a fatal flaw (bad product, poor service, outdated model, etc.), no amount of media will fix it - UNLESS the business utilizes information learned through social media and other channels to fix the problems that the business has. If the business is committed to learning and adapting to the market's demands, then social media can be an invaluable channel for gaining insights, collaborating/co-creating with the market, and developing relationships that can propel the business into the future. In short, social media provides opportunities for businesses to save themselves, but the medium cannot do it alone. |
Yes/
It depends...on the type of business, their target customers, and how they use the tools. Social Media certainly helps smaller, local businesses more as they are likely to go the extra step to get to know their customers on a personal level. By it's self though, Social Media is no holy grail.
